šŸƒ England is planting a new national forest

20 million trees to strengthen land, water, and climate resilience

England is about to grow its first new national forest in 30 years.

Instead of another short-term fix, plans are moving ahead for a new forest designed to grow over decades.

The Western Forest will link landscapes from the Cotswolds to the Mendip Hills, slowly restoring land across several counties as millions of trees are planted between now and 2050.

What matters here isn’t just the number of trees.

It’s the intention behind them.

This forest is being shaped to strengthen soils, ease flooding, create space for wildlife, and steadily absorb carbon over time.

Led by the Forest of Avon Trust, the project reflects a shift we don’t see often enough:

Planning far beyond political cycles and quarterly targets.

Forests don’t deliver instant results.

They reward consistency.

And choices like this only make sense when leaders are willing to think in generations.

There’s a business lesson hiding in that.

The strongest organisations aren’t built by chasing quick wins.

They’re built by investing early in systems that build quietly over time.

Remember, short-term optimisation keeps things running.

Long-term thinking builds advantage.

And the leaders who understand that are usually the ones still standing when conditions change.

Best,
Jasper
