🍃 Heard about the trees that alert rangers?

Here’s how old smartphones are protecting entire rainforests

Some ideas sound impossible… until you realise they’re already working.

Like this one:

Trees that can literally call for help.

A nonprofit called Rainforest Connection is turning discarded smartphones into solar-powered listening devices that sit high in the canopy.

They listen for danger around the clock… chainsaws, engines, gunshots and when the AI detects a threat, rangers get an alert instantly.

The result?

One small device can protect up to 3 square kilometres of rainforest.

They’re already deployed in 30+ countries.

And they’re helping indigenous communities defend their land in real time.

All using tech we normally throw away.
