🍃 Surface level sustainability is NOT enough.

It needs to be tied to the heart of your business.

Did you know?

Every day, we’re building a legacy, and trust me, it’s not in the pages of history books. Instead, it’s in the mountains of waste we leave behind.

The numbers are staggering:

- Americans generate 2.2 kg of trash per person every day.

- In the Netherlands, it’s 1.7 kg per person.

- India and China create far less with 0.57 kg and 0.43 kg per person, respectively.

Zoom out, and the picture gets even bleaker.

In 2018 alone, the world generated 2 billion tonnes of waste.

Over half of it was dumped or left uncontrolled.

Only 19% was recycled or composted.

The rest? Polluting our oceans, poisoning ecosystems and locking valuable resources away forever.

The big idea:

Waste isn’t the problem. It’s a symptom of how we create, consume, and discard.

What we need is a shift from a throwaway culture to a circular economy. We need a system where waste is minimised, and everything is reused or repurposed.

Here’s how we can start to fix it:

1. Refuse what you don’t need. Every no is one less item entering the system.

2. Reduce consumption. Prioritise quality over quantity.

3. Reuse what you have. Extend the life of items whenever possible.

4. Repair what’s broken. Convenience should not be an excuse to replace.

5. Recycle thoughtfully. Understand the rules and ensure materials re-enter the economy.

6. Every small decision contributes to a larger shift toward sustainability.

Thinking about going green? NOW’S your chance.

I’ve got 2 spaces left to work with me next month.

These spots always fill up quickly, so if you’re interested, reply to this email with the word SUSTAINABILITY, and let’s get started.

Tip of the week:

If you’re ready to take action, here are some easy steps to get started:

1. Swap single-use plastics for reusable alternatives for bags, bottles, and utensils.

2. Repair something instead of replacing it. Start small, like mending clothes or fixing appliances.

3. Support businesses that prioritise sustainable practices and circular design.

4. Audit your waste for a week. Take a hard look at what you throw away and ask, “What can I change?”

Our waste is a reflection of our choices. Every piece tossed away is a decision about the kind of world we want to leave behind.

The question isn’t just how much waste we’re creating. The question is how much are we willing to change.
