🍃 Thinking about your next business strategy?

I'd put this question at the top of the agenda

I've just got back from a couple of weeks in Italy with my family and, if I'm honest, it was exactly what I needed. It was a chance to slow down, spend time together and step away from the usual routine for a little while.

Whenever I take a proper break, I notice the same thing happens.

Once the pace slows down, there's finally space to think.

This year, one question kept finding its way back into my notebook.

It's a question I've asked manufacturing leaders for years, yet I realised I've never really shared why I think it's one of the most important conversations a business can have.

So, over the next four Sundays, I'd like to do something a little different.

Rather than sharing another sustainability success story or writing about the latest developments in manufacturing, I'd like to explore one idea that has shaped the way I think about business for many years.

It's an idea that influences almost every important decision a business makes.

The question is surprisingly simple.

Why is the world a better place because your business exists?

At first, it sounds like a question designed for a company's website or annual report.

I don't think it is.

I think it's one of the most practical questions a leadership team can ask because the answer influences far more than a few carefully chosen words.

It influences the opportunities you pursue, the products you develop, the people you attract and the direction your business takes over the years ahead.

The businesses I've seen create the greatest positive impact rarely arrive there by accident.

They have a clear understanding of the difference they're trying to make, and that understanding quietly shapes hundreds of decisions that most people never see.

That's why I wanted to dedicate the next few Sundays to this conversation.

Next week, I’ll tell you about why the most valuable mission is the one that influences the decisions people make when nobody's watching.

Until then, I'd encourage you to spend a few minutes thinking about that question.

Why is the world a better place because your business exists?

You might be surprised where the conversation leads.

Have a great Sunday.

Best,

Jasper
