25 years ago, solar panels were the promise of a cleaner future.

By 2050, more than 200 million tonnes of solar panels will reach the end of their life.

That’s a staggering volume of waste.

But there is hope, and it’s already happening.

France opened the world’s first dedicated solar panel recycling facility, and several other similar business startups is popping up around the world.

And what they’re doing is nothing short of impressive:

They’re recovering up to 99% of each panel’s materials, putting silver, silicon, copper, and glass straight back into the production loop.

Now, imagine this model scaled globally.

By 2050, we could:

- Recover $15 billion+ worth of materials.

- Manufacture 2 billion new panels without extracting a thing.

- Generate 630 GWh of clean power using fully recycled content.

That’s smart, circular design at its best.

1. Talk to your suppliers about recycling or take back programmes.
